Today is January 24th, this time next week, January 31st, there will be something in the air you might not want to miss. The super blood moon is what they are calling it.
Let me stay on the usual moon we see
for a moment. So Monday night, one of my children and I go out to eat
Chinese after we did some cloth shopping. I say, “Oh, look, a quarter
moon.” And my child asks what’s a quarter moon?
I’m all about to blame the school and be all, “What are they teaching you!!!”
But then I remember that I taught the basics on the planets to all my kids.
And yet somehow . . .
At any rate, the super blood moon. From FORBES:

January 31st, something quite rare and special will happen. At 1:30 PM,
Universal Time (8:30 AM Eastern / 5:30 AM Pacific), the Moon will reach
its full phase
for the second time in the month of January, making it a blue Moon. The
full Moon also occurs very close to perigee, where the Moon makes its
closest approach to Earth in its elliptical orbit, occurring close
enough to create a Supermoon, where the full Moon
is up to 14% brighter than average. And finally, the Moon will fully
slip into the Earth's shadow during this time, creating a total lunar
eclipse. NASA is calling it the "Super Blood Blue Moon." For observers
in North America, it's the first time all three
of these phenomena will line up since 1866.
In the continental U.S., the best views of this "super blue blood moon" will be in the West, Gordon Johnston, a NASA program executive who blogs about the moon from the agency's Washington, D.C. headquarters, said in a written statement. "Set your alarm early and go out and take a look."
