I think that's brilliant.
Last night was another tear up and blow your nose episode for me.
Susan (Terri Hatcher) needs a kidney. Her daughter shows up (adult daughter) and even though Susan tells her no, that she won't take her kidney, the daughter gets tested anyway. But they aren't a match.
Susan's mother (played by Leslie Ann Warren -- who is always so great in everything) shows up with Susan's aunt (played by Valerie Harper -- and the role needed a strong actress to hold your attention because Valerie basically played the same scene three times and then got to the pay off scene in her fourth one). So Susan's mother explains they're at the hospital for a short visit because Leslie (I'll just call the two characters by the actresses' first names) is about to leave on a cruise. In fact, that's why she can't even think about giving a kidney. The cruise is non-refundable.
Susan is shocked. Then angry in later scenes. Valerie repeatedly tries to smooth things over. It does not work. Susan makes it clear to Leslie that she can't believe her own mother is more focused on a cruise than on Susan's condition and that she will not even get tested to see if she's a match. At the end of it, she tells her that there was an 85% chance she wouldn't be a match and that she should have taken the test, hoped she wouldn't be a match and then Susan would never know how little Leslie cared.
How little she cared?
Susan goes home and is furious. Valerie drops by and tells her she doesn't know all the details. I was thinking, "Okay, Val's the mother. She let Leslie raise her and . . ." No.
I was dead wrong.
Val explains that Leslie has cancer and the "cruise" is actually Leslie starting chemo. She didn't want to tell Susan because Susan's whole life Leslie has been me-me-me. Susan tells Val she'll apologize and tell her she understands and Val tells her she can't let Leslie know she knows, that she needs to give this to Leslie because it's really important to her.
So -- and this is where you were crying if you were watching -- Susan goes over to her mom's hotel and helps her pack and tells her she's sorry. And then asks why they never tell each other what they feel? Leslie brushes it off and then Susan says she guesses Leslie already knows that she drives her crazy but Susan likes that sometimes because it means there's no other mom like her and lists other things like that. Then Leslie talks about how Susan knows her life (Leslie's life) began when she gave birth to Susan. And it was just a really nice scene which isn't giving it credit. But I don't want to cry again.
Okay, it appears Paul's son shot Paul. At Bree's they invited Paul's blond wife to be nice to her. She finds a gun under her couch pillow (left there by a delivery person who we learn is Paul's son). She thinks the women invited her over to set her up, the women think she brought the gun with her.
Renee tells Tom Lynette knows after Lynette starts tearing out seams in his pants (to make them split) and leaving peanut butter on the stairs to make him trip.
At the end of the episode, Lynette finally appears to have forgiven him. (For sleeping with Renee 20 years ago, back in college, when Lynette and Tom were broken up.)
Gabby got on my nerves. We were supposed to feel sorry for her. I didn't. And Brian Austin Greene only had one scene but it was shirtless so they knew what the viewers wanted.
