Those mischievous scoundrels at HotAir have tickled our pink funny bone today. Before we state why we are giggling so, let’s examine the difference between the George W. Bush “dead-enders” and the Barack H. Obama “dead-enders”.
The Bush dead-enders agreed with their leader on a great deal of his policy proposals even if they knew he was prone to garbled syntax in his speech and gave the appearance of being non-to-bright in his demeanor. On foreign policy the Bush era dead-enders agreed with much of the neo-con vision even if some prominent voices warned against the adventure in Iraq. The 9/11 attacks further fueled the fires of loyalty. On domestic policy there was more division among the dead-enders but to some considerable degree they supported Bush because his tax cut policy was their core issue. Expansion of health care and the budgetary excesses were excused by them to a large degree because in the end they believed that somehow this would help achieve political victories for the Republican party at the ballot box.
The Obama dead-enders however have no real rationale for continued support of the boob-in-chief. Boiled down to the bone the support of the Obama dead-enders for dear leader comes down to “racism” and “Republicans are worse”. They might celebrate the massive waste of money which was the “stimulus” scam, the “cash for clunkers” debacle, and passage of the health scam, but in none of these cases were the policies viewed as a triumph of Hope versus reality. On Guantanamo, retentions, torture, civil liberties, the Patriot Act, transparency, and “heal the planet” promises Barack Obama has been a total bust for them. The only thing that keeps them going is the abiding necessity to not admit they were wrong. They were stupid when they believed anything Barack Obama said. The Obama dead-enders cannot admit to themselves they were fleeced by a major league flim-flam man. So they yell “racists” and “rotten Republicans” whenever they feel the incense is burning out.
It is on Libya however that the excuse making has reached new lows. These fools could not accept the obvious that if Obama had been in the senate during the Iraq war deliberations he likely would have voted for the authorization of force. The simpletons cradled themselves to sleep thinking that Obama was the “new politics” of openness and that he would never be a “war monger” like that hated figure Hillary Clinton. Now these deceived Hopium addicts make pretzels of themselves trying to support Barack Obama for doing what they were sure he would never do.
I am opposed to the Libyan War and do not think it is smart or worthwhile. But I do agree that the Cult of St. Barack is showing all their hypocrisies.
This is from Margaret Kimberley's "Attack of the Cruise Missile Liberals" (Black Agenda Report):
Americans are warlike – as long as they think they can be victorious. These nominal Democrats and Republicans “differ only on who they want to see doing the dominating.” Today, a Black Democrat is the head killer in charge, allowing the likes of Ed Schultz, Bill Maher and Juan Cole to endorse the criminal assault on Libya. When the chips are down, fraudulent anti-war liberals show their true racist, Manifest Destiny-loving colors. “The true anti-war movement must reawaken itself and hit the streets in the hundreds of thousands.”
Peace loving Americans are few and far between. The vast majority of our citizens see nothing wrong with their government killing masses of people as long as the rationale sounds high minded and noble.
The love of bloodshed is generally connected with the right wing in this country, but nothing could be further from the truth. The desire for America to dominate the rest of the world is prevalent among most of its citizens, regardless of party affiliation. Those citizens differ only on who they want to see doing the dominating. Republicans are ecstatic when a Republican president drops bombs, sends drones on killing missions or occupies other nations. Democrats are equally enthusiastic when one of their own does the same.
Democratic party reaction to President Obama’s military intervention in Libya is but the latest example of the American propensity to exult over government sponsored violence. Obama, like George W. Bush before him, claims that his intervention, no-fly zone, peace mission (take your pick) is being conducted only for the most humanitarian of purposes. The dead bodies belie the claims of dogooderism but those words have a distinct power for people in this country and will always be used as a pretext for someone dying somewhere on the planet.
It really is telling and disgusting how so many Bush complainers are suddenly pro-war. Pro illegal war at that. Can you believe it? The very thing that we criticized Bush for a number of my own crowd now applauds Barack for. They were never part of my crowd. They were pretenders attempting to boost election returns for Democrats by pretending -- as did the leadership of the Democratic Party -- that they were anti-war.
Just saw this so I've logged back on to add it, this is from Glen Ford's Black Agenda Report Radio commentary (so use the link to listen to it):
Bill Fletcher is an even worse case. Fletcher was a founder of Progressives for Obama, with the same idea as Amiri Baraka: to shut down Obama critics on the left. But, you wouldn't know that to hear him now. Fletcher claims the left's mistake was not making demands on Obama from the beginning – without acknowledging his own role in preventing any such thing from happening.
New Black Panther Party leader Malik Zulu Shabazz, who put up a spirited, although weak, defense of Obama at one of our Great Debates in Harlem, right after the election, now shouts that Obama “represents the White Man” and that his wife ought to leave him.
And there are plenty of others, too many others, who used whatever influence they had to ensure that Obama was not challenged from Blacks and progressives in 2008 and the two dismal years that followed. Failure to provide a genuine self-criticism reflects not only on their judgment – which is already discredited – but on their character. For Black Agenda Radio, I'm Glen Ford. On the web, go to www.BlackAgendaReport.com.
I do not and will not forgive Bill Fletcher for what he's done in the last three years. He wants to pretend that the last three years did not happen. He needs to take some damn accountability.
