For this reason, the riots were not merely an exposure of what exists but a portent of the future. They demonstrate above all that for the working class and the younger generation, nothing can be achieved outside of the revolutionary overthrow of the existing system. They also served another essential political function—revealing the plethora of fake-left groupings that portray themselves as “socialist,” “communist” and even “Trotskyist” to be the champions of capitalist “law and order.”
The Morning Star, newspaper of the Communist Party of Britain, thundered, “Homes and businesses must be protected, which means that police have to have resources to contain violent outbreaks.”
As the numbers arrested in police sweeps climbed above 2,000, the Morning Star on August 11 complained bitterly that Prime Minister David Cameron had “stubbornly dismissed calls to rethink police budget cuts.” The Tory-Liberal Democrat coalition government was worse “than even that of Margaret Thatcher in the 1980s,” it said, because of its “willingness to antagonise the police” through budget cuts.
The Socialist Party (SP), a long-term political ally of the Stalinists, echoed this law-and-order rhetoric. Deputy General Secretary Hannah Sell, writing in the group’s newspaper, The Socialist, complained, “Belatedly, government ministers have dragged themselves back from their holidays in order to try and ‘restore order’.”
Sarah Sachs-Eldridge wrote, “There is widespread anger that the police did not act effectively to defend people’s homes and local small businesses and shops.”So there are fakes in all countries, not just the US. (Though we have our fakes here. Amy Goodman who can't stop tonguing Juan Cole's anus, for example.)
I was asked about Maxine Waters in an e-mail.
Specifically because Bruce Dixon (Black Agenda Report) takes on the Black Caucus.
I love Maxine but I agree with Bruce Dixon. And C.I. was just saying last weekend that when you go on about how 'people' aren't ready to hear the truth about Barack, you're really just confessing that you're not willing to tell the truth.
Maxine could do more truth telling.
But I'm not surprised she's not. Not due to the reasons given but due to the fact that Barack's controlling the bulk of Democratic money and how it will be used.
A lot of members of the Out Of Iraq Caucus can tell you that Barbara Lee's turned into a third-degree bitch. Which is why, despite public statements and promises made in 2009, she still can't call out Barry. But she can threaten members of Congress. She can run off members of Congress by making it clear that they will not get funds needed for a re-election campaign.
I love Maxine.
I wish she were showing more strength.
But she's not perfect.
That's only, in my book, reason to love her all the more. None of us perfect.
She's been there so many times when it mattered that I'm not going to hold this against her.
I am not, however, so generous to Barbara Bitch Lee.
The two-faced liar who likes to pretend wars matter and that she wants to end a few of them.
Barbara Lee Releases Statement on President Obama's Strategy in Afghanistan

Washington, D.C. – Today, Congresswoman Barbara Lee (D-CA) released this statement on President Barack Obama’s announcement of his new strategy for Afghanistan.
“While I recognize the harsh realities of war and I applaud President Obama for his thorough review of United States Policy in Afghanistan - I must respectfully disagree with the President.
“His decision to implement yet another unnecessary and counterproductive escalation of troops in Afghanistan is disappointing.
“We can't continue to send more troops and expect different results. Our military is already stretched too thin. Afghanistan needs a political solution -- not a military one. Adding more troops won't change this important fact.
“We've been fighting for eight years, and our strategy isn't working. In fact, things are only getting worse -- we are seeing rising violence, surging drug production, and an increasingly corrupt central government.
“It is time to put an end to this conflict. But to do that we cannot continue to use a 20th century response to a 21st century problem. We must change our priorities to focus on a diplomatic solution.
“As we move forward in this process it is imperative that we have a complete debate on this escalation on the House floor. Additionally, I am prepared to offer my legislation HR 3699 which would prohibit funding for an escalation of troops as an amendment.”
Almost two years later and we're still waiting for the groupie to step up to the plate. When will that day come?
Never while Barack's in the White House.
